James says when a man tells a woman he wants her to be able to talk to him about anything. He is really saying one one of two things. If he is a good listener and a shoulder to cry on then she will recommend him to her friends and he can hook up with one of them. That's if he finds her unattractive. If the man finds the woman attractive then he says something like that to her hoping she will see him as a good friend and realize how great he is and fall for him.
It's a fishing expedition....the more he learns about her the better he becomes at saying and doing the right things, and or learns what NOT to say or do.
