Shelly,

It was a good day. Thanks for asking. I got some of my employees approved for overtime. These guys are salaried exempt so they don't normally get OT. They are quite happy about it and so am I.

I don't think I'm going to work in another country any time soon. The engineering side of AMS is complete and so that is out. There is some work with the Russians and European Space Agency but most likely it would be one of my employees who would travel. I have to stay home to take care of the troops. My job is very much like being a parent sometimes. When they get in trouble I have to go bail them out. When they do something good I have to praise and encourage them.

I usually work 40 to 50 hours a week. NASA just recently went to a 9/80 work schedule. I have every other Friday off. It's really nice to have that long weekend. Its funny because I already put in at least 9 hours a day so the change had no real negative impact on my work schedule.

For fun? I cycle with a local bike shop here in my area. We ride in the local area and sometimes travel to different rides around the state. I enjoy it although I have to admit it's kind of an addiction. When I see guys on the road I sometimes have the urge to jump on my bike and go ride with them and see how many I can push past their limit so they have to drop out. Although, there are quite a few guys who have schooled me but its all in good fun. I've come to realize that I'm not meant to be a racer mostly due to my body size. I have a heavy wide frame (not fat) which is just extra non-aerodynamic weight to push thru the air.

I like to hike and camp. I usually go about 10 times a year around the state. I prefer primitive camping but will do cabins and car camping. I enjoy being out in nature.

I enjoy cooking although cooking for one is pretty tough. Some of my favorites are spicy hummus, black bean soup, raw tomato basil pasta sauce, Almond date bars and a spicy Thai peanut sauce on veggies. I like to cook healthy.

Movies are always good but I don't make the time for them. Every once in a while a friend and I will go to the local midnight movie. My son and I will sometimes go to the cinema grill. The food is OK and the beer is good :).

So how about you? I'd love to hear about your job and what you like to do for fun. I also meant to tell you that I like your glasses you are wearing with your son and All Saints guy. They are very unique.

Cheers,

T

Hope you had a good day. Do you see yourself working in a different country again? You have had an interesting career so far. Do you work a lot? What do you do for fun?

I go the MFAH and the Menil every few months when they have a new exhibition or event. I've been to the Louvre and the Rijksmuseum a couple of times too. I've also been to the Air Force museum. That one is for the engineer in me :)

Do you go to museums?
August 5, 2013

Ha, go figure. Urban legend for sure.

The MFA Houston is decent and The Menil Collection is good and free.

Good night, I'm sleepy too.

I have heard about the AMS project. I don't remember much about it now. The museums here are okay. I would think there are some good ones in Houston. I try to go to museums or galleries when I go someplace.

There is an urban legend about shoe size and penis size. You asked. I had someone mention that in a message to me. I don't think he was being funny but I didn't ask since it seems like one would be on his best behavior when meeting a woman; online or not.

Goodnight

I was in the Navy while in Seattle. Most of my travels were later when I worked for NASA. I worked on a project called AMS (Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer). You can find lots of info about it on the web. I was responsible for the design, build and test of the support structure. Most of the project meetings were at CERN in Geneva but I visited institutions all over Europe including The Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Spain, England and France.

I noticed in your profile that you like museums. Are there any good ones in Corpus?

I just read your "You Should Message Me If" statements. Quite funny although I don't get the one about shoe size. Why would somebody want to tell you their shoe size?

Yes, I am a Sooner. I haven't been to Austin. I went to a conference there two or three years ago and had a great time. I would like to go there more frequently. I drive through there when heading to Oklahoma to visit my mom.

I have heard Seattle is great but I haven't been. You lived there at a good time. How did you get to travel so much? Were you in the military?

Dinner time...

Shelly,

I've lived in the Houston area most of my life except for a brief period in Seattle in the early 90s. Houston is so-so but like you said, it's home. I really loved Seattle by my ex couldn't handle being that far from her family. I've traveled all over the US and Western Europe. There are lots of places that look like they might be better places to live. Closer to home, I've always thought Austin would be nice. I have friends there and they love it.

I noticed that you like Chris Cornell. When I was in Seattle the "Grunge" scene was in full swing and I got to see lots of bands. I saw Soundgarden (Chris Cornell), Nirvana, Pearl Jam and lots of lesser known bands. It was a crazy scene.

Are you a Sooner?

I have one son. He is 23. He doesn't live here. I moved here by myself 5 years ago. I am not crazy about Corpus. L liked Oklahoma better, maybe b/c it's home. Where are you from?

Sleep tight.

Does my forehead give me away? Ha, ha! No, I am by no means a brainiac. I'm just really good at what I do: designing, testing and troubleshooting mechanical things. The fact that we shoot some of it off into space just adds another layer of rigor above what typical petrochemical MEs do.

So, by your username it sounds like all your kids are out of the house. Do you just have the one son or are there more? How old is he? How do you like living in Corpus Christi?

So are you a brainiac? I just got back from a long walk and am ready to shower and eat but maybe we can talk more later. s

I'm a Mechanical Engineer by trade. I currently manage a large group of ME's for NASA Johnson Space Center. Its a challenging job but I love it!

I went for a long bike ride this morning and I'm feeling really tired...must...lay...down...lol! Talk more later.

Hi Shelly,

I have never been to Corpus Christi but I hear that it's a nice place. I'm always looking for a good excuse for a road trip! Where did you live prior to moving to CC? What do you do for a living?

Cheers,

Self Summary

Currently, I am living in Killeen, Texas for my job. I don't know anyone so I thought this would be a good way to meet people. I am kind of a homebody, who enjoys cooking, college football, photography, and reading. When out and about, I enjoy movies, the book store, museums, riding my bike, dancing, and people watching.

Favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: I am reading Guns, Germs and Steel and David and Goliath. Recently read The Best Thing About My Ass Is It's Behind Me. I read A Moveable Feast and The Paris Wife recently. I enjoyed Freefall, That Used To Be Us, In The Garden Of Beasts, Super Freakonomics and Blink.

Movies: I usually stay away from tearjerkers when it comes to movies; I like action, mysteries, thrillers, and comedies (romantic and others). I liked Silver Linings Playbook, Les Mis, Seven Psychopaths, Zero Dark Thirty, Olympus Has Fallen, there have been a lot of good movies lately. Oldies but goodies; White Christmas, Breakfast At Tiffany's, The Thin Man, The Godfather, Terminator, there are too many to list.

Music: My musical tastes are pretty eclectic. I like everything from Louis Prima to Pearl Jam, Patsy Cline to Collective Soul, Frank Sinatra to Chris Cornell, but I am not a fan of rap.

Food: I try to eat healthy but fall off the wagon and eat hot wings and hot dogs on occasion, especially, if I go to a game.

You should message me if:

You have your shirt on in your profile picture.
You have always liked women.
You're too old to be my son.
You're too young to be my father.
You have the sense to refrain from asking what I am wearing.
Your definition of divorced matches the standard definition in most dictionaries.
You have the sense to know better than to mention your shoe size. In case you missed the memo it's inappropriate.
