I am thoroughly convinced now that men have no idea how they appear to women. With some prodding from a couple of women at work, I am on POF, OKCupid (again) and maybe Match (I tried to cancel my membership but I don't know if that's even possible). After going through hundreds of photos, it is more than abundantly clear that men have no idea what good photos of themselves are. Many of the photos are weird. They are taken from weird angels; I guess the guys are trying appear creative. Really? They don't have even one friend who will photograph them!?! Some of the pictures show the men in the most unflattering light possible. They have no idea what women like. A lot of men take pictures of themselves with no shirts on even when they don't look good without a shirt. It's also surprising how many men mention some attribute and it's not necessarily a good attribute but a bad one. I have noticed some patterns. A segment of the men on these sites go into a lot of detail about themselves. Just reading about all their activities is draining. And there is no way anyone is good at that many things. Some of these men describe themselves like they are superheroes or something. There's no way any mere mortal woman could be worthy of their time and attention.
I would like men to know that women do care what men look like and they are visual. In studies, women gave men the once over more than once when their eye movements are monitored. Though it sometimes doesn't seem like it, women are far more picky than men by nature since they are the ones who get stuck raising children by themselves not men, generally speaking. So, men should try much harder to look good and normal in their profiles photos and quit trying to sound like they're superheros, who are laid back, rich, down to earth, physically fit, handsome, etc. First, if the guys put decent pictures that do make them look interesting and not crazy or weird we could tell a lot from the photos. Second, most are divorced so we already know that these men are not any one's superheroes and for sure some other women's rejects so if they'd just try to sound like a normal person instead of some freak who's escaped the snares of some evil empress using their super powers it would be better all the way around. It's amazing to me how full of shit about themselves men are and then they can't figure out why you don't like them when you meet them. It's a let down to say the least. MEN: You can't describe yourselves are these superheroes and think that women aren't going to have certain expectations and then be put off when you can't live up to the lies.
